Alcohol and Its Classifications as a Status Symbol

Have you ever wondered why your mom separates a certain type of wine and keeps it in a safe place as it can only be consumed when guests are over? Well, that might be enough for you to understand that one may judge your status depending on the type of alcohol you consume and present in front of guests. This article will talk about wines and the status they tend to symbolize.

Upper Class

It is important to establish that all those who have a high socio-economic status also have a lot of resources. These resources can be used to buy expensive alcohol, and they also tend to use these to dine out more often or celebrate little occasions.

These people would not mind spending money to buy a Diva Vodka ($1 million) or a Billionaire Vodka ($3.7 million). Money tends to lose its value when you become richer. One tries to keep enhancing their quality of life.

Not only that, but these people also like to flaunt their knowledge about alcohol. You will often find them teaching others about the subtle art of drinking wine. Rich people often tend to associate their personalities with the drink they like to have. The more fermented a bottle of wine is, the more expensive it would be.

Middle Class

These people have to face a lot of difficulties because they not only have to keep their budget in check but also have to meet the varying needs of the upper class. You might see them buying expensive alcohol when someone from with higher socioeconomic status is about to show up or on major occasions that they had been saving for a long period of time.

These are the ones who are educated by those in the upper class about their vast knowledge of wines. Moreover, these people might tend to vary their purchase choice from red wine to sparkling wine.

They would not mind a good whisky or beer either but would never purchase a bottle of wine that costs millions. They might be okay with purchasing alcohol ranging from anything above $100. You can purchase a miniatures gift set if you want to present it to a certain type of class.

Lower Class and Students

Students usually have a very low budget because they have multiple expenses to cater to. The same is the case with low-income groups. They have other priorities that require these resources, such as buying food for the day.

Buying drinks does not even happen occasionally. Rather, they try purchasing alcohol only a few times in one year. In the case of students, they like to go out clubbing and attend different events. Even there, they try to purchase the cheapest drink for themselves. These might range from $10 to $50 but not higher.

This too is achieved after saving money from different places for a long period. Their lives are a lot more complicated and quite different from the other two classes. They do not try to impress anyone as the middle class does to the upper class. An example could be cheap beer.

So, this tells us that the type of alcohol you prefer to have portrays the status that you tend to hold. Every type of class has to be dealt with differently, or they can be easily offended. However, these barriers are slowly fading as a wide variety of alcohol is being introduced into the market.
