Different colours of lab-grown diamonds you can find in London

What’s more desirable than a diamond? One that is available in your favourite colour. Isn’t it exciting to have a ring or pendant with a solid diamond of any colour of your choice? Here is where lab-grown diamonds take the cake over natural ones. They are colour graded and available in a variety of colours. There are special techniques to colour them after they have been formed through the HPHT or CVD technique in a laboratory.

How are coloured diamond made?

A regular diamond is made purely of carbon and so it has no colour. It is beautifully transparent. However, the colour is actually the result of impurities in the diamond-making process. These impurities that seep into the diamonds during their making, give them their various colours. If they are in smaller quantities, then the diamonds change colour to yellow or brown. If they are present at a deeper level in more quantities, then you get the fancy, rare shades such as red, pink, blue, etc.

If you are on a lookout to get a different and exciting shade of diamond for yourself or as a gift, then take a look at the different colours that the city of London has to offer.

1. Yellow, orange and brown

Yellow is the most common colour among lab grown diamonds uk. It comes in different shades and hues from light to dark. Orange and brown are also a part of this shade card. Although the impurities are a glitch in the diamond-making process to give colour to the diamonds, interestingly enough, the shades are intentional and can be controlled. These colours are a result of nitrogen being mixed.

2. Pink

This is one of the most desired colour by women for their engagement rings or matching pendants and earring. It looks pretty on a platinum band. The diamonds get its pink colour not due to any addition like nitrogen, but excess pressure, enough to alter the natural composition of the diamond.

3. Red

A glistening deep red shade of diamond is often seen in fancy or royal films. It also uses the same pressure technique like the pink one. However, this is still a very rare colour and not found very easily. Due to its precious nature and shortage of availability, it is also priced really high.

4. Blue

The Heart of the Ocean worn by Rose in Titanic is a memory etched in our hearts forever. That was the Hope Diamond, originally belonging to Louis XVI. So yes, blue is an absolutely vibrant and existing shade in diamonds and one that is coveted by many ladies. Interestingly, it is formed when the element boron is mixed with carbon in the making process. This gives the diamond its gorgeous blue colour.

These are few of the common colours that you can find in London. They are all priced differently based on their rarity, complicated making process and availability. But in any case, they are a much better deal than naturally coloured diamonds. For more information and options, you can visit hatton garden jewellery shops.
