How to Install Cattle Scales

Cattle Scales

If you’ve ever wondered how cattle weighing scales work, you’re not alone. These devices are often used to weigh livestock, and they work by suspending the animal on a platform. The platform is connected to a set of beams and sensors that measure the weight of the cattle. The cattle’s weight is then displayed on a digital readout.

Cattle scales can be used to weigh individual animals or groups of animals, and they are often used in cattle farms and slaughterhouses. It’s necessary to find the most accurate scale. While cattle scales may seem like simple devices, they play an important role in the cattle industry. Understanding weighing scales are important like,  IND570 Industrial Weighing Terminal Vs. They typically consist of a platform and a set of calibrated weights, which are used to determine the weight of the cattle. Cattle scales are used in the cattle industry for a variety of purposes, including determining the value of cattle, tracking the growth of cattle, and monitoring the health of cattle.

There are many different types of cattle scales available on the market, and each has its advantages and disadvantages. The type of cattle scale you choose will depend on your specific needs and requirements.

6 Common Types of Cattle Scales

These agricultural scales come in all shapes and sizes. Depending on the intended purpose, different types of cattle scales can be more or less appropriate.

1. Livestock Scale Kits

These complete systems typically include an aluminium livestock scale, digital weight indicator, and remote display. They’re often used for weighing large animals like cows, pigs, and sheep.

2. Hanging Scales

As the name implies, these scales are designed to be suspended from a beam or other support structure. They’re commonly used for weighing smaller animals like goats, rabbits, and chickens.

3. Portable Scales

These are designed to be moved from one location to another as needed. They’re often used for weighing livestock at different farms or ranching operations.

4. Truck Scales

If you need large, heavy-duty scales that are designed to weigh entire loads of livestock or poultry, truck scales are the perfect choice for you. They’re commonly used in the trucking and shipping of cattle and other farm or ranch products.

5. Grain Scales

These are designed to weigh bulk commodities like grain, flour and rice. They’re commonly used in the agricultural and food industries. However, many farmers and ranchers also use this type of weighing scale to weigh food grains and pellets for cattle nutrition.

6. Floor Scales

Similar to platform weighing systems, floor scales are large, heavy-duty scales that are designed to be placed on the ground. They’re often used in industrial and commercial settings but they can also be used for agricultural purposes.

Step-by-step Installation Process of Cattle Scales

  1. Order your cattle scale. Make sure to get the right type and size for your needs. Consider the types of cattle scales mentioned above.
  2. Find a level spot on which to install your scale. It’s important that the ground is level, so the scale will give accurate readings.
  3. Clear away any debris or rocks from the selected installation site.
  4. Place the scale’s baseplate on the ground.
  5. Center the beam assembly on top of the base plate.
  6. Align the holes in the beam assembly with the holes in the baseplate.
  7. Insert bolts through the holes and tighten them to secure the beam assembly to the baseplate.
  8. Place the scale platform on the beam assembly.
  9. Center the load cells on the scale platform.
  10. Secure the load cells to the scale platform with bolts.
  11. Place the junction box on the beam assembly.
  12. Run wires from the load cells to the junction box. Make sure to leave enough slack in the wires so they don’t become stretched or broken.
  13. Connect the wires to the terminals in the junction box.
  14. Close the junction box and secure it with the provided bolts.
  15. Place the indicator on the beam assembly.
  16. Run wires from the junction box to the indicator. Again, make sure to leave enough slack in the wires.
  17. Connect the wires to the terminals on the indicator.
  18. Turn on the indicator and test the scale to make sure it’s working properly.
  19. If everything is working as it should, congratulations! You’ve successfully installed your cattle scale.
  20. Make sure to keep the scale clean and free of debris to ensure accurate readings. Inspect it regularly and tighten any bolts that may have come loose over time.

Why is it important to use a cattle scale in farms and ranches?

For one thing, cattle scales help farmers to keep track of their cattle’s weight. This is important for two reasons. First, it helps farmers to ensure that their cattle are healthy and not losing or gaining too much weight. Second, it allows farmers to keep track of how much meat they will be able to sell from each animal.

In addition, cattle scales can also help farmers identify which cows are pregnant and which ones are not. This is important for both breeding purposes and for calculating how much feed the cattle will need.

Essentially, farming, ranching and other agricultural activities depend hugely on weighing scales. For this reason, it is important to use the right type and size. It also helps to find a reliable scale and load cell provider near you.
